50 YEARS OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCELLENCE

Inspire your pupils. Capture the present. Shape the future.

We’re excited to invite your school to take part in a creative and thought-provoking competition celebrating CAT’s 50th Anniversary.
Your pupils have a unique opportunity to contribute to a real, lasting legacy by suggesting what should be placed inside an official anniversary time capsule—something that will represent life, archaeology, and community in 2026 for future generations to discover.
We’d love your class to help tell the story of today for the people of tomorrow.

The Challenge for Pupils
Working individually or as a class, pupils are invited to:
Choose an item to include in the time capsule and explain their choice; why would someone in the future find this meaningful?
Make connections to:
-
Local heritage and community life
-
The world we live in today
-
What people in the future might find interesting about how we live today
This is a great opportunity to spark curiosity, creativity, and discussion about how we record and interpret the past.
To keep things simple, we’re asking for one entry per class.
Prizes
Winning entries will be included in the time capsule, which will be sealed during a special public celebratory event, plus there will be Canterbury Archaeological Trust 50th anniversary goody bags for first place.

How to Enter
Download the entry form.
Include a photo or drawing of the object to be put into the time capsule in the space provided.
