Reconstructing a Tudor city
We have a rich variety of evidence for Tudor England. The range includes written records, maps, paintings, drawings, objects and buildings. We are going to focus on 3 types of evidence for the centre of Canterbury, and reconstruct how it probably looked around the beginning of the 16th century.
Reconstruction drawing of Tudor Canterbury produced by Canterbury Archaeological Trust. This interpretation brings together documentary evidence (written records and maps), evidence from standing buildings which have survived down to our own time and excavated remains.
