Illuminating the past – Enhancing the present – Inspiring the future

The Trust has been instrumental in researching and bringing to publication internationally important finds in Kent over the years, such as the Ringlemere Gold Cup and the Dover Boat. Post-excavation analysis of the  Anglo-Saxon cemetery site at the Meads, Sittingbourne involved the ground-breaking CSI Sittingbourne, a community project involving local people in finds conservation.

Closer to home,we have long been recognised as the experts on the archaeology of Canterbury itself, and we are the designated investigating authority for the city. We have developed (with Canterbury City Council) Canterbury’s Urban Archaeological Database (UAD), and new projects to realise the research potential of this body of knowledge are in preparation. These include the Heritage Lottery funded Westgate Parks project, helping to realise the extraordinary time-depth of Canterbury in Westgate Gardens, Toddlers Cove, Bingley Island and Tannery Fields, for locals and visitors alike.
