British Archaeological Jobs Resource (BAJR). Focus on information and adverts relating to employment in the UK Heritage industry.

British Library on the web. This website contains comprehensive information about the Library, the scope of its collections, and how to use its services. There is a range of catalogues for different types of material, thousands of images and some sound samples.

British Museum, London, England. Extensive site detailing all facilities offered at the museum. Includes COMPASS on-line galleries of objects reflecting the range of the BM's collections along with themed 'tours' eg. 'Gladiators and Caesars'.

Butser Ancient Farm is a replica of the sort of farm which would have existed in the British Iron Age circa 300 BC.

Celtic Inscribed Stones Project (CISP) is undertaking a collaborative, interdisciplinary study of Medieval Celtic inscriptions. One of its main objectives is the compilation of an accessible, comprehensive and authoritative database of all known inscriptions. Digital Egypt for Universities. A learning and teaching resource for higher education

DIR De Imperatoribus Romanis: An Online Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors. These contents are supplemented by an ancient and medieval atlas, a link to a virtual catalog of Roman coins, and other recommended links to related sites. The contents of DIR have been prepared by scholars but are meant to be accessible to non-specialists as well.

London Archaeological Archive and Research Centre (LAARC). Based at Mortimer Wheeler House in Hackney, the LAARC holds information on over 5000 sites or projects that have taken place in Greater London over the past 100 years.

Medieval Institute at Western Michigan University ranks within the top ten of the some 90 institutes, centers, and programs focusing on Medieval Studies in North America.

National Maritime Museum (NMM) is the largest maritime museum in the world with a collection of over two million objects related to seafaring, navigation, astronomy and measuring time.

Norfolk Archaeological Unit. The NAU aims to increase knowledge to encourage understanding to enhance appreciation and support protection of the historic landscape.

ORB is an academic site, written and maintained by medieval scholars for the benefit of their fellow instructors and serious students. All articles have been judged by at least two peer reviewers. Authors are held to high standards of accuracy, currency, and relevance to the field of medieval studies.

Oxbow Books, England. Oxford specialises in archaeology and carries an enormous stock of books. They also issue regular free lists of new publications, and can supply all titles by post.

Oxford Archaeological Unit, England. Educational provision includes on-site activities, tours and Open Days.

Oxford Archaeology is the one of the largest independent archaeological and heritage practices in Europe with over 250 specialist staff, with permanent offices in Oxford and Lancaster. Founded in 1973, we have a 30-year tradition of quality, innovation and service.

Oxford University Museum of Natural History houses the University's scientific collections of zoological, entomological, geological, palaeontological and mineralogical specimens, accumulated in the course of the last three centuries.

Past Perfect is a New Opportunities Fund grant-aided project run jointly by Durham and Northumberland County Councils. It uses the latest in virtual reality interactive technology to bring the archaeology and history of the two counties alive.

Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary scheme for the recording of archaeological objects found by members of the public. It was established to promote the recording of chance finds and broaden public awareness of the importance of such objects for understanding our past.

Potsherd is a collection of pages on pottery and ceramics in archaeology, principally of the Roman period (1st century BC – 5th century AD) in Britain and western Europe.

Poznan Archaeological Museum. Main areas of activity: prehistoric and mediaeval archaeology of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) and prehistoric archaeology of Egypt and the Sudan.

Public Records Office, London, England. Genealogy, archives, document reproductions, events, education (includes resources for schools and Further Education, services for teachers), preservation (of manuscripts, maps etc.), records management, schools and public exhibitions.

Regia Anglorum was a term used by early English writers to describe the English state. It means 'The Kingdoms of the English'. In a twentieth century context Regia Anglorum is a nationwide society with many independent local groups, from Scotland to the south coast, who all work within a tight set of common sense rules.

Society for American Archaeology (SAA) is an international organization dedicated to the research, interpretation, and protection of the archaeological heritage of the Americas.

Society for Historical Archaeology. The study of the material remains of past societies that also left behind historical documentary evidence. This subfield of archaeology studies the emergence, transformation, and nature of the Modern World.

Spartacus Educational for a short directory of History websites.

Stone Pages. Stone circles, dolmens, standing stones, cairns, barrows and hillforts. The first and most comprehensive online guide to European megaliths and other ancient sites.

Sussex Past, England. This extensive site belongs to the largest independent archaeological society in Britain. Link to 'Romans in Sussex' (Late Iron Age to early Anglo-Saxon), a most impressive user-friendly second site with masses of material and clear attractive images. Valuable resource for teachers, tutors, students and pupils.

Time Team, TV Channel 4, England. Three sites were excavated by Time Team in Canterbury during August 2000: Tyler Hill (medieval), Blue Boy Yard (Roman and later) and Greyfriars (medieval). Viking Answer Lady was chosen as best 'Vikings' site on the Web in the April 2000 issue of the net, the UK's biggest Internet magazine.

The Vikings. Founded in 1971, The Vikings are the oldest and largest Dark Age re-enactment society in the UK, and probably the world. With over 700 members throughout Britain, and others in Europe and the US, The Vikings are the premier society presenting re-enactments of the Viking Age.

Virtual Catalog of Roman Coins, a web site devoted to helping students and teachers learn more about ancient Roman coins. These pages contain images and descriptions of coins from the Early Republic through the end of the 4th century A.D. and the formal division of the Roman Empire into east and west. The catalogue provides only a sample of the thousands of Roman coin types, but it is constantly growing.

Vision of Britain through time, your national on-line library for local history. Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.

Wessex Archaeology. A comprehensive and clearly presented site with full coverage of the unit's services which includes an education programme.

Whitehall Farm Roman Villa and Landscape Project is a long-term community based research project which is investigating the archaeological evidence for a Romano-British settlement near Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire.

Will Foster Illustration. Graphic design service to the heritage, archaeological and publishing sectors. Artefact illustration, maps, plans, heritage interpretation and exhibition design.
